The use of accounting software by the Tongan government could have played a part in preventing a recent financial error.
It has been revealed that the national authority received NZ$330,000 (£164,230) in aid money from New Zealand and Australia that was then found to not have reached its intended target.
While an investigation has resulted in foreign minister Murray McCully confirming there is no evidence of fraud, better practices could still have stopped the cash going missing.
The closer look at the case simply concluded that poor accounting methods were responsible for the administrative error.
"I am pleased to confirm that the independent audit has found no evidence of fraud. The issues have arisen due to poor record-keeping rather than anything more suspicious," Mr McCully stated.
The Detroit Free Press recently told how an accounting error by authorities in Macomb County has resulted in a $1.7 million (£1.1 million) hole in the region's budget.
