Agility needs ‘driving server virtualisation adoption’

8th December

Category: Virtualisation

Server virtualisation is becoming popular because firms need to improve the flexibility of their business processes, one expert has claimed.

Writing for Network World, Robin Gareiss of Nemertes Research noted that this is just one of the reasons the technology is being utilised by an increasing number of companies.

"IT staffs must have flexibility in adding and moving applications," he stated, adding that studies carried out by his organisation show that 93 per cent of enterprises have adopted some form of server virtualisation.

Mr Gareiss went on to say that business continuity and disaster recovery are also important, with virtualisation allowing administrators to run applications for remote access workers from back-up data centres.

Furthermore, cost considerations can also affect a firm’s decision to use such platforms, he added, as virtual servers can boost energy savings.
