Global oil and gas logistics firm Asco is to improve the efficiency of its worldwide business operations after agreeing a major new managed services deal.

The company has agreed a £15 million outsourced IT partnership that will encompass management of its computing infrastructure, business systems and communications support, as well as all of its third-party IT contracts.

This arrangement is designed to enhance the capabilities of its IT operations, while reducing business risks to its global logistical activities.

It will also help to slash costs, optimise Asco's processes and systems and introduce "new ways of working" to the international organisation.

Billy Allan, chief executive of Asco, said: "Information systems and technology are critical to our business and the way we respond to customer needs."

Earlier this month, Dmitry Loschinin of business software firm Luxoft told Bloomberg Businessweek that companies wishing to get the most out of a managed services relationship should ensure they communicate their objectives clearly to their provider.
