Few countries have grasped the qualities and advantages of cloud computing to the extent that Australia has.

The nation's fondness for the technology has been emphasised once again by a new survey conducted by Forrester on behalf of virtualisation solutions provider VMware, reported itWire..

It found that 47 per cent of businesses down under view cloud computing primarily as a strategic business investment, compared to other markets where its number one use is thought to be cost reduction.

In total, 67 per cent of Australian firms said they have already adopted cloud computing systems, a seven per cent increase on the figure recorded a year ago.

"What is clear from the survey is that Australian companies are ahead of the game when it comes to cloud computing," said Duncan Bennet, managing director of VMware Australia and New Zealand.

VMware this week revealed it has enjoyed "solid" financial results in the third quarter of 2011.
