Citrix may offer some of the finest desktop virtualisation solutions on the planet, if the prestige of its latest contract is anything to go by.

The company has confirmed it will join Microsoft in carrying out an upgrade of equipment at the Australian Department of Defence, reported CSO magazine.

It described the government faculty as an "A-grade customer" that would "seem to back up" Citrix's claims that its security and data management technology is worthy of going mainstream.

Citrix products could now be considered a positive and effective addition to any company infrastructure, even those that are the most security-conscious of all.

The firms will deliver a next-generation desktop, with solutions based on Citrix's famous XenDesktop and XenApp equipment, the publication noted.

Citrix recently announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2011, revealing a 20 per cent hike in revenue compared to the same period in 2010.
