Banks are pioneering a new approach to outsourced IT services, one industry expert has suggested.

BG Srinivas, Infosys's head of Europe, told ComputerWeekly that banks are leading the way when it comes to IT outsourcing and they could create a "roadmap for other sectors to follow".

Supplier portfolios are being consolidated and strategic sharing between firms and their IT service providers are parts of the new models being seen in outsourced IT relationships.

According to Srinivas, the supplier will be able to make long-term preparations and be able to respond more quickly to customer demands if strategic plans are shared.

David Ellis, of OMC Partners, recently said companies choosing to outsource IT need to invest time in the "knowledge transfer" aspect of implementing changes.

He explained that companies need to ensure they understand what outsourcers do and how they do it.

Once a firm has put time into finding this out, they will reap the rewards in the long term, he added.
