Larger companies have been called upon to take advantage of the potential business benefits offered by home working.
A new report from the Executive Offices Group (EOG) has suggested that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are currently more willing to explore flexible work options than big businesses.
The organisation suggested that some large-scale companies remain unduly sceptical about the capacity of remote access technology or the productivity of non-office-based staff.
This is despite data from the EOG's recent customer service survey showing that 87 per cent of respondents believe improved worker efficiency and output is the primary benefit of flexible working.
John Drover, chief executive officer of EOG, said: "The business case is persuasive and where innovative practices work best, they combine meeting the needs of the organisation, its customers and the individual."
Last month, Martin Lyne of T-Mobile stated that the growing popularity of home working is changing how SMEs evaluate productivity, with judgements now focusing on results rather than the amount of time spent in the office.
