British American Tobacco set for SAP ERP software overhaul

SAP's world-famous enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is to be used by British American Tobacco (BAT) as it seeks to revolutionise its business operations.

Ahead of the SAP User Conference in Birmingham next week, BAT's data lead Jon Veness spoke to Computing about the benefits of the solution.

He said that adopting SAP technology, as part of an organised programme, will enable the company to support all of its global processes and data.

It is also the latest stage in a streamlining process that has made the firm more efficient, as the 62 ERP software instances it housed five years ago have been reduced to just seven.

"We want to move to a single global template where everyone will be operating in the same way in every market," Mr Veness stated.

Gartner this week predicted that spending on enterprise IT solutions will increase in Europe, the Middle East and Africa between now and 2015.
