The first phase of a server virtualisation project has been completed at the premises of the British Transport Police (BTP).
Ahead of the London Olympics next summer, the force has decided to virtualise some 160 servers to a private cloud solution, reported Computerworld.
It believes the effects will be an improvement in disaster recovery and business continuity, which should be particularly useful with the Games imminent.
However, the work is not yet over, as the BTP is to invest in a second round of server virtualisation that will see 2,000 desktops migrated and savings of about £1.5 million recorded.
The organisation's London base is said to already be benefiting from higher efficiency when it comes to managing its resources.
Virtualisation solutions provider Citrix recently confirmed the launch of its latest product – the Citrix XenServer 6 – which it said will offer high levels of performance in virtualised environments and increased scalability compared to its rivals.
