Up to 70,000 BT employees are in a position to start home working once the Olympic Games kick off in London next year.

City AM has questioned the Transport for London and London 2012 Travel Advice for Business team on the subject of arrangements for when the sporting event comes to the English capital.

The response indicated that home working will be a key feature of the schedule, as this will take commuters off public transport when it will be overloaded with Games spectators.

One of the key contributors could be BT, which is said to have more than 70,000 staff capable of working from non-office locations and 13,000 who already do so.

The team added that BT has found those who employ home working techniques are 20 per cent more efficient than employees at its headquarters.

Earlier this year, the BT Blog suggested that about 800,000 people are to use public transport on the Games' busiest day next summer.
