Business chiefs ‘increasingly looking to virtualisation’

Those responsible for business continuity and other efficiency factors within companies are increasingly turning to virtualisation software, which could include Citrix XenServer.

Ian Osborne, project director at Intellect, explained that virtualisation is becoming "very popular" among companies, with its principal benefit said to be an increase in efficiency.

He suggested that one of the major advantages of virtualisation is the significant decrease in utilisation it triggers.

"Instead of eight to ten per cent maybe on average, you can get up to fifty or sixty per cent and it potentially gives you much more capacity than you thought you had," Mr Osborne stated.

Green IT chiefs should also note that, in the expert's opinion, virtualisation is an eco-friendly option, as a firm's workload is consolidated on to fewer servers, lessening its footprint.

Mater Health Services this week told how it chose Citrix XenDesktop in order to improve the speed and reliability of its operations.
