Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are considered most valuable when they incorporate business intelligence modules, according to a new study.
Data compiled by Dale Vile, writing for the Register, showed that reporting, analysis and business intelligence functions were considered the most dynamic components of firms’ ERP systems.
Some 40 per cent of respondents said these elements resulted in ‘major ongoing changes’ in their operations, while a further 20 per cent said there were significant advantages.
Commenting on the statistics, Mr Vile said: "Businesses are increasingly wising up to the fact that the information gathered in these systems is an incredibly valuable asset."
Other areas dramatically improved through the deployment of such technology included procurement management, sales order processing and finance and accounting.
In an article for the same publication last week, Mr Vile noted that ERP software that prioritises flexibility will attract the most customers in the future, with workforce mobility high on the list of potential features being sought after.
