Companies could benefit from regularly testing their disaster recovery procedures, experts have suggested.
According to MIR3, it is necessary to ensure staff are properly trained in coping with the fallout of an unexpected catastrophe, such as a natural disaster.
This, it said, would help to ensure that disaster recovery plans can be put in place effectively as soon as they are required, thereby ensuring business continuity.
MIR3 also stressed the need to make sure "clear and effective channels of communication" are put in place, as this would allow firms to coordinate their recovery efforts.
The group said this would also help companies assess the level of damage to their operations quickly.
MIR3 added that businesses could support these efforts by making sure their contact data is up to date, which means recipient lists should be reviewed on a regular basis.
The advice came shortly after Bill Bradford, SUNHELP.org's senior systems administrator, told SearchDataCenter.com that server virtualisation could significantly help to simplify disaster recovery planning.
