Businesses ‘moving into the virtualisation space’

Category: Virtualisation

The past year has witnessed interest in virtualisation from businesses skyrocket, new research has revealed.

According to a study carried out by AMI Partners, 2009 was the turning point when companies realised the many benefits a switch to virtual software can bring, eWeek.com reports.

The organisation’s tracking report revealed the number of US enterprises considering server virtualisation has increased from 46 per cent to 75 per cent.

Melissa Chong, AMI’s controller of managed services, explained the boom could be down to firms wishing to cut IT costs during the recent economic downturn.

"At the most basic level, it [virtualisation] improves utilisation and reduces the number of physical servers, while at the same time reducing electricity and cooling costs," she remarked.

The specialist added companies have become more responsive to their users’ needs by reducing application deployment and migration times.

Aaron Weiss, reporting for eSecurity Planet, recently observed virtual technology is becoming simpler to deploy and offers greater security.
