Category: ERP systemsEnterprise resource planning (ERP) systems will need to be updated and businesses must ensure they have the correct framework to deal with this kind of operation, one expert has suggested.
Hedley Hurwitz, managing director of risk management company Magix Integration, stated that applications usually have a shelf life of around five years.
He remarked: "Preparing for this certainty now by establishing a middleware framework for current and future requirements will allow a business to expand and grow its software stack."
Mr Hurwitz added that formulating a plan for these situations will ensure cost-efficiencies and a reduction in the amount of time taken to implement such changes.
Organisations could be aided in this, Spend Matters executive editor Jason Busch recently suggested, with ERP platforms becoming more flexible in 2010.
According to Magix Integration, ERP systems are a core technology in the majority of organisations, with accounting software - such as SAP Business One - being prevalent in small firms.
