Companies that introduce enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP Business One, into their working environment need to ensure users remain disciplined, one expert has claimed.
Writing for the 21st Century Supply Chain blog, integration consultant Max Jeffrey noted that manufacturers often allow past due purchase orders (POs) to build up in their platforms.
He stated: "Obviously, when a PO schedule is past due, it cannot be determined when that scheduled supply will be available to support production."
Mr Jeffrey added that this is often because firms maintain their revised delivery commitments from suppliers in external areas, including Excel spreadsheets.
Businesses require diligence in updating changes on the ERP platform, he explained, as there are serious cost and revenue loss ramifications of having outdated information stored in these systems.
Last month, a study by the National Computing Centre found that less than 33 per cent of enterprises monitor their ERP technology’s return on investment.
