When it comes to making decisions regarding outsourced IT services, chief information officers (CIOs) and chief executive officers (CEOs) are invariably in charge.

According to a recent study by IDG Enterprise, the outsourcing decision-making process is led by CIOs in 79 per cent of companies and CEOs in 78 per cent.

Some five per cent of outsourced IT services are coming from the UK; the study revealed, however, the US is currently leading the way in providing managed services.

"This survey highlights the fact that IT stakeholders lead the decision-making process for outsourcing services," said Bob Melk, SVP/group publisher at the organisation.

In order to protect valuable data, companies could consider using managed services, as a spokesperson for database and application security experts Imperva recently said it is vital for businesses to think about backing up their systems.

He explained that if there were an outage or data loss, this could prove very problematic for companies, and using IT support services could counter this risk.
