Outsourced IT will be high up on the agenda for chief information officers (CIOs) this year, a new survey has suggested.
One in ten firms will be using more than half their budget to invest in IT support services, the poll by Harvey Nash and PA Consulting, reported by ComputerWeekly, revealed.
Nearly a third of companies said they would be spending a quarter of their IT budget on outsourced IT in 2011.
"In the past 12 months, two trends have emerged around how CIOs are outsourcing. First, more CIOs than ever before are investing in outsourced activity [and] second, they are engaging a more diverse group of partners," said Tom McEwan, global head of IT at PA Consulting.
A recent report by Ovum revealed that many chief financial officers are choosing to keep their finance and accounting operations in-house, despite the increasing interest in outsourcing and the efficiency benefits cited by those who choose to use IT support services.
