Virtualisation solutions provider Citrix has acquired a rival firm, potentially enhancing its position within the market.
It has purchased RingCube, a desktop virtualisation specialist that is renowned for its ability to personalise technology for its customers.
By tailoring solutions for individual users, RingCube is able to accelerate the period of desktop virtualisation adoption, as it removes factors such as centralised IT management and user personalisation.
Bob Schultz, group vice-president and general manager of enterprise desktops and applications at Citrix, said: "As customers take on enterprise-wide desktop transformation initiatives, Citrix is in the best position to provide a broad range of technology delivering multiple types of virtual desktops that satisfy every user in the enterprise."
The company believes its takeover of RingCube will enable it to maintain a world-leading position within the desktop virtualisation market.
A recent report by the Australian noted that the University of Sydney is one of the latest bodies to benefit from adopting Citrix virtualisation technology.
