Citrix and VMware ‘set to virtualise Google Chrome’

Citrix and VMware are currently working on developing new applications which could make Google Chrome desktop virtualisation become a reality.

Chrome OS users will be able to stream Windows apps to their PCs without the need for rewrites or developers through the work Citrix is doing.

Explaining the benefits this could afford users, Allen Falcon, chief executive of Google channel partner Horizon Info Services, told CRN.com: "Virtualisation will give Chromebook users access to a Windows desktop and a mechanism for using their Windows apps and legacy apps without having to reprogramme everything for the cloud."

Even though Google believes Chrome to be a replacement for Microsoft Windows operating systems, the search giant has teamed up with market leaders in the server virtualisation market to ensure its product is still compatible with those offered by Microsoft.

Recently, Citrix announced it was partnering up with Rackspace Hosting, with the latter hoping the agreement will make it easier for companies to use virtual desktops by hosting Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp software.
