Virtualisation technology from Citrix has long been favoured by many chief information officers (CIOs), it has been suggested.

Writing for Forbes, David Carr has been looking at the history of the software provider - whose virtual products include Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenServer.

The expert noted: "For about 15 years Citrix Systems has been an important software company for corporate technology managers trying to simplify the deployment of applications and reduce desktop computer support headaches."

He claimed many CIOs have witnessed the benefit of the technology - be it through maintaining computing environments or providing remote access to corporate applications for home users.

Sorting through the many options and possibilities now available from Citrix may be the hardest challenge for today's customers, Mr Carr added.

J Bonasia, reporting recently for Investor's Business Daily, observed Citrix's virtualisation products have been one of the key drivers behind the company's successes in recent years.
