Businesses that install Citrix XenDesktop and XenServer could save nearly 50 per cent on their storage costs, it has been claimed.

Kevin Teasley, president and chief executive officer of Indianapolis-based the Greater Educational Opportunities Foundation (GEO Foundation), said the technology was revolutionary for his organisation when it was installed.

"When we began this project, we had no idea that we were going to enable some classrooms to provide every student their own computer - something that is nearly unheard of," he remarked.

Mr Teasley went on to say the fact that a back-end server-room platform was able to create more equipment for students is what made the process so amazing.

According to Citrix, the GEO Foundation was able to realise savings of $60,000 (£36,000) within its first month of introducing the software.

Citrix XenDesktop 4 was recently handed InfoWorld’s Technology of the Year Award for 2010, with it having been judged to change the IT landscape considerably over the last 12 months.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19564334-ADNFCR
