A large university in the US has opted for Citrix XenDesktop as it bids to experience the full range of benefits of desktop virtualisation.
Middle Tennessee State University wants on-demand access to Windows virtual desktops and applications – something the technology can provide.
As the largest undergraduate education institution in the state, the university is eager to improve its efficiency and it is thought the switch to Citrix solutions will result in a 35 per cent drop in computing costs.
Thomas Eacobacci, area vice-president of the south-east region at Citrix, said: "Middle Tennessee State University clearly demonstrates how virtual computing solutions from Citrix can help students achieve their educational goals and, at the same time, ease budget worries."
One of the key ways that XenDesktop will help the university is by reducing its need to refresh IT products and software.
It was recently revealed that Citrix has launched a desktop virtualisation app for the Apple iPad.
