Companies in the market for a virtual software solution might want to consider Citrix XenDesktop, as it has been praised by a research group.

According to the Burton Group, the model is the first “enterprise-ready” server-hosted virtual desktop product, reports Chris Wolf - research director at Gartner - in a blog post.

The technology meets all of the evaluation criteria developed over a five-month period by the body, which included ‘required’, ‘preferred’ and ‘optional’ specifications, the industry figure noted.

Areas that were considered included user experience, management and security.

Mr Wolf observed: “Burton Group extensively tested the above features in our lab to ensure that they met our requirements and the result was a platform that we can recommend.”

Mark Templeton, president and chief executive officer at Citrix, recently claimed the firm is excited about the trajectory being witnessed in XenDesktop licensing after the enterprise recorded favourable revenue profits in the second quarter of 2010.
