Companies that combine the virtualisation software of Citrix’s XenDesktop and XenServer products can gain unique benefits, it has been claimed.
John Humphreys, from the company’s Datacenter and Cloud Division, noted the joining of the two platforms can provide a customer with the key attributes of server virtualisation.
The industry figure explained these include the ability to encapsulate workloads inside virtual machines, separate application stack from hardware and isolate virtual appliances from one another.
These advantages "all enable IT organisations to provide more centralised, secure, available and agile desktop environments that improve service levels while reducing management overhead", he observed.
Mr Humphreys added one of the main draws of the XenServer model is dynamic memory control, which allows users to set minimum and maximum thresholds for their virtual platforms.
It was recently revealed The Co-operative Group expects to save more than £1 million a year after selecting Citrix XenDesktop for its relocation to a new state-of-the-art building in 2012.
