There are plenty of reasons to invest in cloud computing, including the focus it provides on areas such as innovation and market reach.

That is the view of Andy Burton, chairman of the Cloud Industry Forum, who said modern cloud services tend to lead to an "understanding and expectation of scalability", as well as value for money and agility.

He noted that attention is less on technology and more on the changing way in which IT is managed.

"Cloud computing offers a level playing field upon which the focus shifts significantly from maintenance to innovation and market reach," Mr Burton stated.

The advantages of cloud computing are sure to rub off on non-users over time, leading to more and more firms investing in the solution, it was recently said by Jeff Kaplan, founder and managing director of consultancy firm THINKstrategie.

Mr Burton added accessing and managing information is now the key to success in business - and the cloud can excel in these areas.
