Companies will continue to invest in cloud computing over the months and years ahead, with many believing they can get even more out of the technology than they currently do.
According to the second InformationWeek Reports State of Cloud Computing Survey, IT teams around the country will focus on adding more to their existing basic infrastructure.
While fewer new users of basic infrastructure are expected in 2012, more will adopt extra features such as platform as a service, software as a service and other offerings from virtualisation vendors.
Indeed, some 48 per cent of the IT professionals questioned in the study said they plan to use cloud computing provided by virtualisation specialists this year.
Among the new tools due to be taken up by organisations over the next 12 months are online apps, automated internal cloud solutions and developed cloud apps, InformationWeek noted.
Last month, Visiongain said mobile cloud computing products will grow in popularity, with this market set to raise $45 billion (£29.1 billion) in revenue by 2016.
