Cloud computing ‘can save money and the environment’

The many advantages of using cloud computing solutions within a business have been highlighted once more in a new survey.

US telecommunications giant AT&T teamed up with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) to study exactly what effect the technology can have.

It found that while cloud computing, as many people already realise, can trigger huge financial savings within a business, it is also the instigator of several environmental benefits.

As part of the research, the CDP looked at 12 firms that have been using cloud computing for two years and predicted they will go on to make a total of $12.3 billion (£7.65 billion) in savings by 2020.

Another conclusion is that by spending 69 per cent of current hardware budgets on cloud computing, the companies could reduce their carbon emissions by 85.7 million metric tons each year, Cloud Pro noted.

Ernst & Young recently suggested that cloud computing is the number one priority for businesses over the next year.
