Companies could fall behind their rivals if they fail to make an investment in cloud computing, if one expert's words are anything to go by.
Phil Wainewright, vice-president of EuroCloud, has suggested that the technology is increasingly becoming the norm in business.
He said there is market research that shows cloud computing already makes up about one-eighth of all spending on IT and this figure is growing at a rapid rate.
"It's growing somewhere between - depending on who you talk to - 25 and 40 per cent a year. [It] is going to become mainstream very fast," Mr Wainewright stated.
He also noted that the prospect of using a variety of computing methods in conjunction with each other – including cloud-based and non-cloud solutions – is likely.
Earlier this week, Mr Wainewright suggested cloud computing is the perfect option for companies with offices and staff located in different parts of the world.
