The growing dependence upon cloud computing and the way it is invigorating organisations in the UK is one of the current government's greatest success stories.
That is the view of Andy Nelson, the government's chief information officer, who said the launches of G-Cloud and Cloudstore have made it easier to roll the technology out, reports the Register.
He described the cloud as the "biggest single breakthrough" in public sector IT as it continues to revolutionise bodies. However, the chief admitted there is still some way to go before it has had the maximum impact.
Speaking at the Cloud Computing World Forum, Mr Nelson explained that every government department will need to draw up a digital agenda by the end of 2012. Many could include the cloud as a significant part of their plans.
IT Pro recently quoted Gartner as suggesting the US cloud market is two years ahead of its European counterpart - something the UK government might be doing its best to reverse.
