Companies around the world are tailoring their everyday working practices to suit their cloud computing technology.
A report by accounting firm KPMG International, reported by the Wall Street Journal, found that what started as a simple tool has become the basis of modern commercial activities.
It noted that cloud computing initially rose to fame as it offered a way for businesses to reduce costs, but it now offers much more.
Of the 900 organisations surveyed by KPMG, 80 per cent said they are plotting a switch to cloud computing, while ten per cent said their core systems already operate in the cloud.
Eugene Kolker, chief data officer at Seattle Children's Hospital, which recently undertook a huge adoption of cloud computing, said: "What's remarkable about the cloud is you can do this type of work on demand. We've never had information ability like this before."
Resource on Demand recently said cloud computing is one sector that is bucking the economic trend by booming at the current time.
