Cloud computing has emerged as a major priority for a huge number of businesses in the UK.
New research by Ernst & Young has uncovered the technology as the number one issue on the agendas of firms for the next year.
It suggested the case for adopting cloud computing is now "compelling" and many companies have realised this.
A large number are said to be spending time working out the implications of the solution and trying to understand exactly what its impact would be.
Indeed, some 48 per cent of organisations questioned said the adoption process is "difficult or very difficult" – but that should be no barrier to investment.
Stronger oversight on the contract management process with cloud computing providers is the most common protective method, although only 20 per cent of firms do this.
Gartner this week suggested that cloud computing will drive the banking operations of many financial firms over the years to come.
