There are a number of reasons to switch a company's operations to run on cloud computing software, which is extremely beneficial, in the opinion of one expert.

Dr Graeme Codrington, futurist and speaker at TomorrowToday, explained there are three levels on which to use the technology.

The first is at the operating system level, which moves functionality of computers to the cloud. In addition, applications are boosted by the use of the system, as they can be used "at a distance", while the final benefit comes in the form of the vastly improved storage options on offer.

It is not the first time in recent weeks the cloud has been praised, with research body IDC suggesting it drives innovation within British businesses.

Dr Codrington noted the cloud now applies to "a lot of things" and there are many reasons to use it. He stated: "It relates to our ability to take functionality off of our local computers and put it onto a remote computer."
