Cloud computing makes sense in business

Category: Virtualisation

Users of cloud computing may already be aware of the significant benefits the technology provides, from an increase in efficiency to higher productivity.

But it is those who have yet to invest in the solution that may be most interested in just how it can revolutionise a company.

It provides a virtual space where documents, photographs, data and information can be stored.

Despite the admiration many have had for it for some time, it was only last year that the BBC declared it had "gone mainstream".

Perhaps its greatest benefit is the fact that the cost of buying a server is swallowed by the operator, rather than the customer.

Writing for the Guardian, technology editor Charles Arthur has explained that there are "powerful plus points" to cloud computing, which is why it is being considered by almost every business in the world.

Andy Burton, chairman of the Cloud Industry Forum, is quoted as saying that cloud computing is not specifically about flexibility, speed or cost – it is instead a combination that works to provide the platform for a more competitive organisation.
