The cloud computing market is set for significant growth and increased diversity over the coming months and years, if the results of a new study are to be believed.
Infonetics Research has published the results of its Cloud Service Strategies: Global Service Provider Survey, which show there is a promising future for the sector.
Sam Barnett, directing analyst for data centre and cloud at the research body, said providers of the technology around the world have "embraced" it and are ready to invest heavily in further development.
The survey questioned 20 current data centre operators, with 70 per cent revealing they are investing in the technology in anticipation of future demand.
Some of the more complex cloud computing solutions – such as platform as a service – are currently offered by only a few providers but are sure to become more common by 2013.
It was predicted this week by IHS iSuppli that the cloud market will grow in 2012, with the interaction between the technology and mobile devices due to be particularly strong.
