Cloud computing ‘offers flexibility and scalability’

24th May

Category: Virtualisation

Cloud computing is arguably the most significant trend in the IT market in recent years, but for anybody who is still unsure of exactly what benefits it triggers, an expert has issued comprehensive guidance.

Tiny Haynes, a research director at Gartner, told the FT Connected Business podcast that there are numerous reasons to invest in the virtual platform and to run a company from it.

For instance, firms that do just that will be able to enjoy huge gains in areas such as flexibility and scalability, as their need for a physical server is removed and they instead rely on a vast, virtual system.

Mr Haynes went on to suggest that companies must implement the cloud and use it as and when they need it - as this will be the moment that they realise the economic benefits of operating it.

Another of the advantages of the cloud was summed up recently by Jiyan Wei, chief executive officer and co-founder of BuildZoom.com, who said the technology has been crucial in the rise of the Big Data trend.
