Firms thinking of investing in cloud computing solutions have been advised there are many advantages attached to this.

A new report by IHS iSuppli has predicted that the technology will continue to grow over the coming years and, by 2015, the fastest-growing sector of the server market will be those that run on the cloud.

Peter Lin, senior analyst for compute platforms at the research body, said servers such as these can be geared towards either the consumer or an enterprise.

"The benefits are many, including higher utilisation of server devices, low capital expenditure for clients, high scalability and access to the service across multiple devices," he stated.

Cloud solutions are ideal for creating a technology base that will result in its owner facing extremely low IT costs.

John Dunn, security editor of TechWorld, recently noted cloud computing users must decide whether to select a private, public or hybrid platform, with the private option said to be the simplest to run.
