India has been highlighted as a location where cloud computing is set to boom over the years to come, as the country ramps up its investment in IT.
Research body Gartner has revealed that there are several "urgent and compelling forces" that will come to prominence in the nation in the near future.
One of these is cloud computing, which it said is still in the "early stages" but is sure to grow rapidly.
For example, $74 billion (£47.3 billion) was spent on the technology in 2010, making up just three per cent of IT investment, but it will now grow five times faster than standard IT expenditure until 2015.
Peter Sondergaard, senior vice-president and global head of research at Gartner, said: "What supply chain models did to manufacturing is what cloud computing is doing to in-house data centres. It is allowing people to optimise around where they have differentiated capabilities."
Cloud computing was recently backed by former Dragons' Den star and businessman James Caan, who was quoted by Cloud Pro as suggesting he could not believe how affordable the solution is.
