Cloud computing ‘to drive future IT spending’

Category: Virtualisation

Cloud computing has been highlighted as one of the key areas in which new IT spending will occur over the next five years.

According to new research by the International Data Corporation (IDC), both providers of cloud services and those who use them will invest in the infrastructure that supports their technology.

In total, an annual growth rate of 23.6 per cent is expected in terms of spending on storage hardware, services and software.

"IDC expects cloud service providers to be among the most expansive spenders on IT products and services as they continue to build out their facilities worldwide and expand their service options," stated the organisation's vice-president of storage systems and executive strategies Richard Villars.

Among the benefits of private cloud computing systems identified by the IDC are the ability to deliver information more efficiently and lower the ongoing costs of IT.

Seth Robinson, one of the authors of the CompTIA second annual Trends in Cloud Computing report, recently urged those using cloud computing to ensure they maintain a good relationship with their provider.
