Firms looking to select a server virtualisation strategy must consider the scope of their project's storage needs, it has been suggested.
Information Week reporter George Crump said the amount of effort a company puts into making the technology work, the time it spends keeping it running and the adaptability of it to change are some of the key issues for the deployment.
The expert noted a number of factors need to be considered when deciding on such needs.
"This is not just the amount of capacity required but also the number of physical servers that will be connected to that storage," he explained.
Mr Crump added it also includes the number of virtual machines the physical servers will be able to support.
In a recent article for ReadWriteWeb, Audrey Watters claimed virtualisation in learning establishments could bring many benefits.
The faculty will be able to reduce the cost of its computer centres while the students will have increased access to the technology they require, she observed.
