Companies currently outsource around one-quarter (26 per cent) of their IT services, but they plan to increase this over the next year.
According to a recent study by IDG Enterprise, over the coming 12 months, 36 per cent of firms will be using more outsourced IT services.
Cost reduction is driving 50 per cent of companies to look to managed services, while 52 per cent said they were using IT support services because they have access to skills they do not have in-house.
"IT recognises that they need to improve their service practices and measurement in order to improve results," said Bob Melk, SVP/group publisher at IDG Enterprise. He explained that this realisation means companies are turning to managed services companies despite sometimes having concerns about poor service and security issues.
In an interview with ComputerWeekly.com, Mark Lewis, head of outsourcing at law firm Berwin Leihton Paisne, recently said local authorities are likely to be turning their attentions to outsourced IT services increasingly in the future.
