Cost-effectiveness ‘the next stage in virtualisation’

Maximising cost-efficiencies will be the main factor of virtualisation platforms in the near future, one specialist has claimed.

Vice-president of marketing in the Datacentre and cloud division of Citrix John Bara said that originally the focus was on server consolidation, but that is about to change, WebMediaBrands reports.

He said: "We're at the beginning of the next phase which is about ubiquity, cost and bringing value to the user like being able to access your PC remotely and hold virtual meetings."

According to Mr Bara, the desktop environment will be at the centre of driving this forward and with more organisations now having money to spend on IT systems, upgrades are going to become more popular.

Microsoft Windows 7 has helped to trigger this flow, he added, as the program has proved an instant hit with most businesses.

Founded in 1989, Citrix is a virtualisation software provider with more than 10,000 partner companies around the world.
