Firms could find that investing in top-quality accounting software eases the pressure on their staff and keeps them satisfied for longer.

Max Williamson, a director at CareersinAudit.com, has warned that many companies are risking the loss of their top accountants by failing to ensure their happiness.

He noted that a study conducted by the website found that 40 per cent of financial professionals are currently looking for another job, with a further 18 per cent suggesting they will do so within the next 18 months.

"Companies cannot keep ignoring the issue of career development. They need to make greater efforts if they wish to retain their top performers," stated Mr Williamson.

One move could be to install the latest accounting software, which can give workers a much-needed helping hand and improve the efficiency of their labour.

Bloomberg recently told how a number of the largest companies in the accounting sector will be ordered to share some of their business with smaller firms if new European Commission plans come to fruition.
