A large number of Indian companies will soon be considering solutions such as Microsoft Hyper-v as the country looks to adopt green IT practices.
New research by Gartner has found that spending on green IT and other sustainable initiatives will soar from $35 billion (£22.25 billion) in 2010 to $70 billion in 2015.
It is thought that the Asian nation will be one of the first to launch a widespread adoption of eco-friendly computer technology.
In its report Hype Cycle for Green IT and Sustainability in India 2011, Gartner suggested that while the subject is still little more than a buzzword, it will soon become a top priority.
"As enterprises embrace IT to improve productivity and drive growth, penetration of ICT infrastructure has been growing rapidly during the past decade," explained the organisation's research director Ganesh Ramamoorthy.
Businesses looking for green enterprise resource planning software could consider products by SAP, after it was recently identified as a top performer on both the 2011 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes and Carbon Disclosure Project Global 500 report.
