As more and more staff turn to home working and use mobile devices, IT departments must ensure they have measures in place to protect companies' valuable data.

According to Canalys, smartphones and tablet computers are increasingly being used by workers within a business environment, which can potentially pose a threat to firms' security.

This should spur businesses on to implement measures which allow home working staff access to data through remote server access, while maintaining their security.

"Increasing numbers of corporate organisations [are] achieving impressive productivity gains through the adoption of mobile devices accessing the corporate network," said Robert Caven, managing director of RMS.

Recently, research from the Innovation Value Institute (IVI) in Ireland revealed workforce mobility is on the rise around the world.

Some 59 per cent of IT professionals polled by IVI said they believe the number of people now working outside their native country has risen significantly.
