DataCore Software has highlighted the importance of its software-based storage virtualisation to cloud computing.

According to the company, the VMworld 2010 conference showcased how its products help companies and other users by deploying high-availability configuration, which allows them to wipe out storage-related outages.

In addition, the firm noted its technology can complement a business's storage, making it more reliable and faster, cut costs and work across incompatible storage devices.

Aaron Schneider, principal and co-founder of Helixstorm, commented: "The DataCore Software stretch high-availability solution delivers seamless, enterprise-class business continuity, data resiliency and high performance at an affordable price tag."

He went on to say applications, VM migrations, virtual servers and virtual desktops are able to run non-stop even in the event of back-end storage changes, reconfigurations and failures.

One such piece of DataCore software is SANmelody, which aims to virtualise and complement existing disk devices and allow users to share, provision, migrate, expand and upgrade storage without downtime.
