Demand could well rise in the outsourced IT sector over the coming years, a new report has revealed.
Around 20 per cent of the total outsourcing sales in the UK in 2009 were contributed by the IT and data-related services industry, research by Oxford Economics, reported by Computer Weekly, showed.
The report found around £35 billion was spent in the private sector on outsourced IT services and £6.7 billion in the public sphere.
Peter Brudenall of Lawrence Graham said: "These figures demonstrate the maturity of outsourcing as a business model."
"It will expand as companies realise that outsourcing ... allows companies to compete better because they can invest more in their core business," he added.
Sourcing industry research network Horses for Source recently published a report which suggested that outsourced IT will become increasingly popular this year with regards to finance and accounting management.
Its report found that the predicted increase in demand for services is due to the end of the recession.
