InformationWeek, compiling its list of the top ten social business incidents of the year, has also heaped praise on VMware.

The company's purchase of Socialcast is named as the sixth best moment of the last 12 months in this sector, with it described as an indicator of VMware's determination to build a formidable cloud set-up.

And the virtualisation solutions provider's success in 2011 did not end there, as it also acquired SlideRocket and several other applications.

David Marshall, writing for the same publication, recently said the launch of vSphere 5 allowed VMware to increase its standing in the cloud sector and keep up with many of its rivals.
