Desktop virtualisation specialist VMware set for continued growth

VMware should see demand for its desktop virtualisation solutions increase over the months and years to come, if one of its executives is to be believed.

Chief financial officer at the company Mark Peek said both existing clients and new users will step up their need for the firm's equipment in the future.

Indeed, he noted that VMware's revenue is expected to rise at a more rapid rate than the virtualisation industry as a whole.

"A part of our future market share on vSphere specifically is not only the new customer, but the growth on that [existing] base over a period of time," Mr Peek told a Goldman Sachs conference last week.

Scott Aronson, senior vice-president of global channels and alliances at VMware, recently outlined his plans for growth by telling CRN that the brand is to target small to medium-sized businesses in the future.

Mr Peek noted that industry-wide growth targets of ten per cent will be eclipsed by VMware, which is anticipating between 19 and 22 per cent expansion of revenue in 2012.
