Does home working appeal to younger staff?

Companies in the UK may find that offering home working is imperative if they are to attract bright and talented young staff members.

Shirley Borrett, development director at the Telework Association, has spoken on the subject of youthful employees and what they are looking for.

She advised that an increasing number are now seeking flexible working – which can include the ability to carry out their jobs from home.

"Offering flexible and home-based working is a way of recruiting people who don't want to work in a conventional office environment," Ms Borrett stated.

There are a variety of reasons home working may appeal to certain people, such as giving them the opportunity to overcome a disability or to work without having to travel each day.

Dr Clare Kelliher, senior lecturer in strategic human resource management at the Cranfield School of Management, recently said that the ability to work flexibly is often appreciated by staff.
